Thrissur: Writers and cultural activists have expressed their displeasure with the presence of an advertisement logo commemorating the Kerala government's second anniversary on recent books released by the Kerala Sahitya Akademi. The motto for the logo, which featured on the top right corner of the books, was 'Kaikal Korthu Karuthode, Randam Pinarayi Sarkar Varshikam' (Joining hands with strength, Second Pinarayi Government Anniversary).

As the scandal grew, Akademi secretary cum editor CP Aboobacker accepted responsibility and stated on social media that he had directed the logo to be placed on the volumes. He said that the emblem was added after the books were released as part of the government's 100-day initiative.

However, Akademi chairman K Satchidanandan expressed his disapproval with the act and stated that the Akademi had the responsibility to be cautious in such situations because governments tend to go, but books stay. He stated that the branding might have been placed on the second page of the books if necessary.

The government advertisement emblem has appeared on the cover pages of 30 books, including 'Malayala Nataka Sahithya Charithram' and 'ONV Kavitha Padanangal' by Dr. M Leelavathi, among others. Even before the book was published, there were complaints about the logo, which was expected to hurt sales.

Even communists have criticised the use of 'Pinarayi Government' on the logo rather than 'Kerala Government,' claiming that the change was intended to promote personal worship.
